LESSON HORSES

Name: Aquarian Brandy "Brandy"
Breed: Morgan
Age: Foaled 1987
Sire: Centennial Command
Dam: Saddleback Splendor

Brandy is a beginner/intermediate school and practice horse. He is often the first horse you will show if your desires take you in that direction. Brandy takes pride in his tail, which drags the ground by 2 feet. He loves to show and also loves treats and attention.

Name: The Frosted Rose "Nina"
Breed: American Saddlebred
Age: Foaled 1986
Sire: Rose's Masterpiece
Dam: Admiral's Red Fern

Nina was purchased as a four-year old by former customer, Marly Garman. The mare was shown one season in the english pleasure and driving divisions before she was trained to go western. Nina and Marly showed to great success in the western division and finished their first season together by winning a national title. The following year, Nina was sold to Ann Marie Mielke to be used as an equitation horse. This team won the coveted gold medal in the Pleasure Olympics.

Later, Nealia was on the hunt for a guaranteed-safe horse for her daughter Jessica, who was starting her show career in the walk and trot only division. Jessie showed Nina during her five- and six-year old years. While Jessie was not the top rider on the show circuit, she was definitely the safest!

When Jessie outgrew Nina, the mare was put in the lesson program where she has been a favorite “beginner” horse ever since. She did take a little break in 1999 to have a foal, “The Prince of Egypt”, aka Moses.

Nina is a top choice for our younger riders and drivers. She is kind and her beautiful white color makes her look like a princess’ horse.

Name: Cedar Creek Limerick
Breed: Morgan

Limerick had a very successful show career with Dr. Geraldine Meanor. After a move to North Wind Stables, Limerick was acquired for use as an intermediate lesson and practice horse. Over the last couple of years, he has been a favorite to lease and show. Most recently, he has become a star in our Academy Program. He has won several classes for walk/trot kids and adults. Limerick requests treats when you are fortunate enough to get to ride him for your lesson.

Name: The Prince of Egypt “Moses”
Breed: American Saddlebred
Age: Foaled 1999
Sire: Number One Man
Dam: The Frosted Rose (our own Nina!)

Moses is a second-generation school horse. His smooth gaits and willing attitude have made him very popular with the students at North Wind. He is always so busy with lessons that he has never been to a horse show. The best way to describe Moses is “the little engine that could”. It is hard to find a horse that gives a smoother ride than Moses. Moses’ motto is “Will work for treats”.

Name: Donner
Breed: American Saddlebred

Donner was adopted from Saddlebred Rescue around Christmas of 2007 and therefore was named after one of Santa’s reindeer.

Even though Donner was older and very thin, the instructors at North Wind could tell he would be the ideal mount for beginning riders. Since he has been in our program, he has taught many new students the joy of horseback riding. One of Donner’s favorite activities is being groomed and brushed by riders of all ages. When you meet Donner, you will see that he is no longer thin. In fact, he’s borderline portly, which is partly because he never refuses a treat.

Name: Johnny Quest
Breed: American Saddlebred

Johnny Quest was found by Saddlebred Rescue waiting in a holding pen for the truck that would ship him to slaughter in Canada. Saddlebred Rescue’s instincts in finding treasures proved to be true with this horse. Even though Johnny is an older horse, his value is no less important to the riding program at North Wind Stables. He has quickly become a much-requested mount for our intermediate and advanced students. His favorite trick is standing pretty for treats.

Name: Frank
Breed: Percheron

Frank was purchased for Mark McCracken (Nealia’s husband) at a livestock sale after he spoke to both Pat and Nealia. What Frank said to them was this: “I would make a GREAT horse (pun intended) for a taller and bigger rider.” And that is exactly what he has become. While Frank is not for the beginner, he is more than willing to give a few lessons to a qualified rider. Frank has requested that a portion of the fee for any lessons he gives be donated to Saddlebred Rescue.

Name: Revelations Daryl Eden "Edie"
Breed: American Saddlebred
Foaled: 1993
Sire: Carnation’s Stormy Leo
Dam: Santana Sorcery

Edie was purchased by Anne Butler (instructor at North Wind Riding Academy) as a five-year old after producing a filly (Revelation’s Glory) for her former owners. Over the years, Edie won many blue ribbons for Anne in the pleasure divisions, both under saddle and in harness. Anne’s son, Tommy and daughter, Julianne also enjoyed a bounty of blue ribbon rides on Edie. Currently, Edie is serving as a lesson horse at North Wind. She is used for beginning riders as well as more advanced ones, and excels as a “driving instructor”. She loves to drive! Edie is in demand for use by our students showing in the Academy division as well as Country Pleasure and Equitation.
